TC Now Supports Multiple Venues

This is a big weekend for Tournament Control: for the first time ever we are running 3 tournaments at the same time! Two of those tournaments are actually one – the Nga Hau E Wha Maori Squash Tournament being held at Tawa, Mana and Khandallah – and to support that we have introduced a new feature in TC: multiple venues.

The scenario for multiple venues is when you have one big tournament that is being held at 2 or more clubs, with games mixed between the clubs so that a player may play one game at one club and then their next game at another club. (If each division was being played entirely at one club then we could just set up a separate tournament for each club.) Each club that wants to use TC only wants to display their own games, but they need the games from the other clubs to be in their system since the results of those games are needed to populate the players for later games at their club.

This is achieved in TC version 1.7 by using separate but identical tournaments, one for each venue, all of which actually contain all the games at all the venues. A new Venues tab allows the user to select which venue(s) they want shown on their display. TC essentially then ignores games at other venues. However, results of games at other venues can still be entered on the Games tab (made easier in version 1.7 through a new right-click menu). The different venues do need to communicate their results to each other by phone, text, etc. (see comment below) so that all the tournaments in TC can be kept up-to-date with all the results.

venuestabThe Android Tournament Viewer app is now also “venue aware” and will only display courts and games for the venue(s) that have been selected as visible for each tournament.

TC version 1.7 also has a number of other new features, so make sure you have the latest version when you next use TC to run your tournament.

  • Another way for the different clubs to communicate results to each other is to use the Tournament Viewer phone app. You can change the settings in the app so that you only receive notifications when games finish, and the notification includes the game result. So if you then request a notification for every game, you will receive the results as notifications as they happen, without missing any, and without the other club having to do anything extra.
